Public interest litigation was filed in the Supreme Court over the rescue of Indian students trapped in the Russia-Ukraine war. In the wake of that case, Chief Justice NV Ramana today said that the apex court has nothing to do with the matter. “Can I instruct Russian President Putin to stop the war?” He asked.
Russia’s military operation has left many students and Indians stranded in Ukraine. However, many of them have been repatriated. Many students are still stranded in various cities in Ukraine. Public interest litigation was filed in the Supreme Court. The lawyer for the public interest litigant complained in court today that the stranded Indian students were not being allowed to cross the Ukrainian border into Romania.
During the hearing, Chief Justice NV Ramana said, “What will the Supreme Court do about this? Can I instruct Russian President Putin to stop fighting? ”
The plaintiff’s lawyer said, “The trapped students are in the cold. They need to be taken care of, “the chief justice said. The government is doing its job. We can only ask the Attorney General to find out how they are being rescued. “
