Although it was a virtual meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channy, this is the first time since the start of a battle between the Center and the state, the BJP, and the Congress, that the PM’s convoy is stuck in Punjab.
Channi did not miss the opportunity. He poetically expressed “regret” that the PM’s convoy was stuck over the situation. Channy told the Prime Minister today, “I just want to say a ‘sher’ for you. Tum salamat raho kayamat tak aur khuda kare ki kayamat na ho. ” That is, you remain intact until the last day of the earth. God forbid that the last day should not come.
The Modi government and the BJP also accused the Channi government of neglecting the security of the Prime Minister and complained about the life of Narendra Modi. Channi did not go into that context today and said, “You are dear to us. You came to Punjab. I am sorry for what happened during your visit. ” Part of the BJP, however, admits it is negligence and interprets it as regret.
The Supreme Court has already constituted a committee to conduct an impartial inquiry into the stalling and breach of security of the Prime Minister’s convoy in Punjab.
