The Delhi Sealing Drive is an exercise being carried out by municipal corporations to rid the city of illegal commercial establishments.  A meeting called between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at AAP’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence ended in chaos as the two parties scuffled over the ongoing in the meetings. Once again the tiff between the two parties is aired in the open.

Events during the Meeting

CM Kejriwal wrote to Lt Governor Anil Baijal on Monday requesting a meet with him. He had mentioned in the letter that he would be accompanied by BJP and AAP MLAs and councilors to deliberate on finding a solution for the Delhi sealing drive problem. In his letter to the Lt Governor, he stated that the issue fell under his (Lt Governor) jurisdiction. He reiterated that visit to the governor would come after a 9.00am meet with the legislators at his residence then proceed to the Governor’s residence by 9.30am

CM Kejriwal meeting with his party legislators and the BJP legislators chaos disrupted before a solution was even discussed. The BJP members cried foul as they claimed that AAP members led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal disrespected them. Chief Manoj Tiwari adds to the allegation by alleging that AAP members misbehaved with the BJP leaders by harassing them, a move that BJP Vijender Gupta adds forced him to fall to the ground.

Kejriwal defended the ruckus by alleging that the BJP contingent wanted to discuss a matter in private but was unwarranted to the move and urged to discuss in the presence of the AAP faction. CM Kejriwal reiterated that he did not understand why the matter could not be discussed in openness as that was the agenda of the meeting.

Alternative AAP led Solution

Since there was no headway between the two party factions at CM Kejriwal’s residence, the Chief Minister suggested that they will take their matter to the Supreme Court with the objective of getting a ban on the Delhi sealing drive.

Before presenting their petition to the Apex Court, CM Kejriwal visited six markets to talk to business owners and assure them that their move to court would assist in temporarily stopping the sealing drive. The drive is expected to affect many businesses in the town.

The meeting is another instance that portrays the tiff between the AAP and the BJP.
