Former Union Law Minister Ashwini Kumar has quit the Congress party. He left Congress after being in Congress for almost four decades. “This decision is in line with his dignity,” he said after leaving the party.

Ashwini was in charge of the law ministry from 2009 to 2014 during the Congress rule at the Center. Sharing his resignation letter with various news agencies, he wrote, “I have thought a lot about this issue. I have decided that I will no longer be in Congress and that is a decision consistent with my dignity. I will be able to work well on national issues from outside the team.”

In an interview with a news outlet, he lamented that many leaders had left the party due to internal congressional processes. He added that the declining turnout in the Congress party across the country made it clear that the thinking of the people was not in line with the thinking of the party.

He also said about Rahul Gandhi without naming him, “The people of the country cannot accept the alternative that the Congress party has put forward for the country as its future leadership.”
