Shortly after her disappearance a couple of months ago, her mother lodged a complaint with the police against former Samajwadi Party minister Fateh Bahadur Singh and his son Rajol. Uttar Pradesh police have recovered the body of a 22-year-old Dalit girl who went missing in Unnao from the land next to Fateh Bahadur’s ashram.
The SOG team of the Uttar Pradesh Police, which is in charge of the investigation, said it was initially believed to be a case of kidnapping and murder. The main suspect Rajol has been arrested and is being interrogated. Unnao Superintendent of Police Shashisekhar Singh said, “We have identified the location of the mobile tower and recovered the body of the missing girl from a vacant plot next to the ashram.”
According to police sources, the mother had lodged a complaint against Fateh Bahadur and Rajol at the police station after the girl went missing on December 6. On January 24, the Dalit mother tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire in front of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav’s car.
The rescue of the body has taken on a political dimension since the start of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls. The BSP and the BJP leadership immediately demanded legal action against the SP leader and his son.
