The petition for a speedy hearing of the hijab case was rejected in the Supreme Court. As a result, the hijab case will be heard in the Karnataka High Court on Thursday afternoon. The hearing is scheduled to start at 2.30 pm. Earlier, the case was transferred to the Supreme Court for speedy hearing. But the apex court dismissed the plea. The Supreme Court has said that preparations for the hearing in the High Court have begun. There is no rationale for intervening in this situation.
A school in Karnataka recently banned female students from wearing hijab. After that, it was alleged that some other schools were not allowing students to enter after wearing hijab. Five students from Udupi in Karnataka had approached the High Court against the ban. A one-point hearing of the petition was held on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Justice KS Dikshit said the case raised bigger questions of law.
The larger bench usually deals with questions of personal law. A three-member bench headed by the Chief Justice of the High Court will hear the case from 2.30 pm on Thursday. As an interim measure, lawyers for the five students sought permission for Muslim students to wear the hijab. But the judge said that the question has to be asked on the larger bench.
