Subsidized five kilogram LPG cylinders will be available in ration shops soon. The center has taken the initiative to strengthen the country’s ration system and deliver gas to households. In the coming days, rice, wheat, pulses, and edible oil will be available to increase the importance of ration shops.
Ration dealers had applied to the Union Ministry of Food and Distribution for launching LPG service from ration shops two years ago. The Center has accepted the offer in principle, said Vishwambhar Basu, National General Secretary, All India Fair Price Shop Dealers Federation. “The government has agreed to sell subsidized LPG cylinders from ration shops,” he said.
Although the government initially talked about selling unsubsidized cylinders, the organization insisted on selling subsidized cylinders keeping in mind the financial condition of the customers in the ration shops. Which the center has accepted. However, the Center has not finalized the price of the cylinder.
At present, a ration dealer gets 60 rupees per quintal of rice or wheat. With which the owners of the ration shops pay the expenses of the shop and the salaries of the employees. Ration owners have been demanding Rs 250 per quintal income keeping in mind the price hike.
After a meeting with Union Food and Distribution Ministry Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey, Bishwambhar Basu said, “The government has agreed to increase the revenue of dealers from next financial year. The central allocation will determine how much money the dealers will receive per quintal in the coming days.”
