Five years ago, the Aam Aadmi Party took Punjab by storm before the Assembly polls. Many thought that Arvind Kejriwal’s party was going to come to power in Punjab after Delhi. But Kejriwal spent the night at the house of Gurbinder Singh, a member of the Khalistan Liberation Front who surrendered. After that, the wind turned towards the Congress. After winning the election, Amarinder Singh became the Chief Minister.

Five years later, the Aam Aadmi Party has again become the main headache of the Congress in Punjab. The tug-of-war between Navjot Singh Sidhu and Charanjit Singh Channi is raging inside the Congress over who will be the next Chief Minister. But most opinion polls suggest that the Aam Aadmi Party is set to win the most seats in the Punjab Assembly, even if it does not get a majority.

Many Congress leaders agree with the survey. The Congress hopes to win the upcoming five state elections in Punjab and Uttarakhand. But even there, Kejriwal has worried the Congress.

According to Congress sources, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), desperate for better results in Punjab, has been holding ‘honor meetings’ in the last six months to win the hearts of Dalit vote banks in the districts.
