Due to the Corona situation, no foreign leader will be present as a guest at the Republic Day celebrations on January 26. This was informed by the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.
It was initially decided that the heads of state of five Central Asian states — Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan would grace the Republic Day guest seats. But the foreign ministry said on Wednesday that it has been decided in a virtual meeting of the five heads of state with Prime Minister Narendra Modi that they would not attend the Republic Day celebrations due to the Covid-19 situation.
Incidentally, no foreign head of state or government was present as the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2021. It was initially decided that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson would be in a parade on the streets of Delhi. But at that time, his visit to India was canceled due to the spread of infection in Britain.
