Amid concerns over Omicron, the Narendra Modi government has again warned the states and Union Territories in a letter. In a letter, Aarti Ahuja, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, advised the administrations of each state and union territory to keep a close watch on the infection situation.

The letter said that in accordance with the guidelines of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the number of corona tests should be increased and hotspot areas should be identified. Contact tracing, if necessary, appropriate arrangements should be made for the coroner’s shelter. If there is any cluster of infection, surveillance should be increased there as well. If necessary, we have to walk on the path of creating a ‘containment area’.

The Center has also expressed concern over the recent decline in the number of corona tests in some states. The letter also called for immediate action to control the deaths of Covid-19 patients. In particular, the Additional Secretary of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that adequate beds, oxygen, and other related health services should be maintained to deal with the situation.
