After reviewing the Covid situation, the Election Commission announced the polling day in Manipur along with four other states in the country. The polls in Manipur will be held on February 28 and March 3. Count 10 March. Voting in the state has already started before the announcement of the day.

Last time BJP came to power in alliance with local parties, but this time the BJP is moving forward with the aim of forming a government in power alone. Their campaign started with a public meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the Assembly, Congress failed to come to power for the fourth time in 2016 despite being the single largest party. The coalition government came to power after the BJP, NPP, and NPF joined hands and one MLA from Trinamool won and one Congress MLA supported the alliance.

The Congress has twice in the last five years tried to regain power by splitting the ruling coalition but failed. Attempts have been thwarted by Himantabishwa Sharma, head of the NEDA alliance. This time Himant has predicted that BJP alone will form the government in Manipur.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh, once was a police officer, decided to quit her police job and contest the polls.
