No one will be declared as the chief ministerial candidate in Punjab but the Congress is looking to contest the upcoming election in Punjab with Chief Minister Charanjeet Singh Channi in mind. According to a recent ABP News-C voter survey, Channi is far ahead of Sidhu in the list of fates as chief minister. Congress sources said Rahul will start campaigning from Moga in Punjab on January 3. Before that, the selection of Congress candidates will start from Monday.

Rahul Gandhi will start campaigning for the Punjab assembly elections on January 3. Congress sources said state Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu is not, as the days go by, the scales are getting heavier towards Channi.

The Congress leadership made Channi the Chief Minister of Punjab after Captain Amarendra Singh was removed from the chief minister’s throne. Now Dalit Sikh leader Channi as chief minister, Jat Sikh Sidhu as state Congress president, and O P Soni as deputy chief minister. With this equation in mind, Congress is trying to enter Punjab. It is said that the votes will be contested under the overall leadership of the party leaders. Former state Congress president Sunil Jakhar is part of Pratap Singh Bajwa.

Some in the Congress, however, feel that it will be difficult to remove Dalit leader Channi from the chief minister’s post if Congress wins the vote and comes to power. Because in that case, removing Dalits from the chief minister’s post will send a wrong message. Especially here the Congress is claiming political credit for putting Dalits as chief ministers across the country. Secondly, Channi herself has become quite popular in a few days.
