Women face many problems while traveling alone or in small groups on long-distance trains for a long time. In order to alleviate the discomfort of traveling for women, the Railways is thinking of allocating separate seats for women in the reserved compartments of long-distance trains. It is reported that the railways may decide in this regard next year. Apart from trains like Rajdhani, Duronta, Garib Rath, this facility may be introduced in all long-distance trains which have to travel at night.
According to the Railways, in the case of general sleeper class, it has been thought to allocate 6-8 seats per room separately. In the case of AC three-tier that number may be 5-6 and in the case of AC two-tier 3-4 seats may be reserved for women. Women who book tickets individually or in small groups will get the benefit of reserving those seats. Lower berths in reserved rooms will be reserved for women.
According to the railway authorities, if the safety of female passengers increases, their interest in long-distance train travel will increase. RPF and GRP activities have also been enhanced for the safety of women. Railway officials said that in addition to the GRP, the RPF has emphasized on creating its own source network to curb crime on trains.
