Sage Aurobindo used to talk about the overall improvement of the child’s mind, body, and soul through education. He was a great Philosopher, Yoga Guru, and Indian nationalist. Today, everyone in Sage Aurobindo’s centenary celebration committee questioned that his idea of integral education should be part of the new education policy. It should be included in college and university curricula. During the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that while celebrating the centenary of Sage Aurobindo, emphasis should be laid on his philosophy of ‘Revolution’ and ‘Evolution’.
This week, a committee was formed to celebrate the centenary of Sage Aurobindo. Though West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was a member, she was absent from the first meeting of the committee today. Two days ago, no one from West Bengal was allowed to speak at the meeting of the Committee to Celebrate the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence. That is why Mamata said she would not attend the Aurobindo committee meeting.
The Prime Minister said in the meeting, 150 universities of the country could be asked to prepare research papers on various aspects of Aurobindo’s life and philosophy in the year of Rishi Arvind. Those research papers may then be published simultaneously. When he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he had regular discussions with Sage Aurobindo’s disciple Kirit Joshi.
The talks have had an impact on the government’s new education policy. The Prime Minister proposed that the centenary celebrations of Aurobindo would start from Pondicherry on January 12, the National Youth Day. As a result, the younger generation will be encouraged to visit Pondicherry to learn about his life and philosophy.
