Almost after nine months, Arvinder Singh ‘Lovely’ re-joined Congress after leaving BJP. It has been a roller coaster ride for the former Delhi Congress Chief and he finally announced his reinduction to Congress after he had a meeting with the Congress President Rahul Gandhi. He met with Ajay Makan on Saturday to finalize his return the party, he had left the party last year to join Congress and it seems that he did not like it much there.
INC’s official Twitter account said that Congress welcomed Arvinder Singh back with open hands in the family and a picture of Lovely with Rahul Gandhi was attached to the tweet. PC Chacko and Ajay Makan completed all the formalities and he was re-inducted into the party which he had left last year. Ajay Maken took to social media site Twitter to announce this news, he explained that there was a meeting arranged with Arvinder Singh and Harun Yusuf and PC Chacko and the party leaders have decided to welcome him back. Lovely Singh has a strong presence in East Delhi and he has boosted a number of supporters in the constituency which was formerly in the hands of Sheila Dikshit’s son, Sandeep.
In a press conference in the AICC headquarters, he said that he was never fit for BJP as his ideology was different and he admitted that there were differences between him and the part due to which he decided to move to BJP. He said that after the meeting with senior leaders of the party, he sorted out all the differences and now he is back in Congress.
Ajay Maken has always prised Lovely and his contribution t the arty and said that his return will help to boost the party workers morale and it will be a good thing for the party. He said that Lovely and his family has always been close allies of the party and their contribution was one of the reasons that party has a strong presence in East Delhi. INC will surely be strengthened in his presence and it is no surprise because Lovely has a strong presence in the ground.
Former Chief Minister and senior leader Sheila Dikshit said that it was very good news and Lovely was not in ideological sync with Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). She said that she is happy that Lovely has been reinducted to the party. He had alleged that the party took bribery forte distribution of tickets and that he is feeling suffocated in the party. He then came in contact with Amit Shah and the meeting lead to him leaving the Congress and joining BJP.
Amrinder Singh Lovely had alleged that Congress leaders took bribes and were biased in the distribution of tickets in the Delhi MCD elections. In his early career in Congress, he had been in charge of important sectors as transport, education, urban development, and tourism. He was elected for the first time in 1998 from the Gandhinagar seat and his position in the party has been on rising since then. In 2015 when Aam Aadmi Party won with a majority, he was removed from the position of Delhi Congress Chief. When leaving Congress, he said that Congress President had not given him an appointment and that he was feeling suffocated.
