According to a report by ANI, two suspects were arrested in the murder case of former corporator of Shiv Sena, Ashok Sawant on Monday. Mr. Sawant, 62, was attacked by unidentified assailants outside his house in Kandivali on Sunday night. He was a two-term corporator from Samata Nagar in Kandivali. He was returning home after meeting a friend around 11 pm while unidentified assailants attacked with the chopper.

The former Sena corporator was stabbed to death near his residence in the suburban Kandivali’s Thakur Complex. According to the police, Mr. Sawant with his friend Vinod Sonwane was riding to his residence when the assailant came on an autorickshaw and one of them kicked the motorcycle they were riding on. Due to the impact, both driver and pillion fell off the motorcycle. Mr. Sonwane ran after the assailant who kicked their motorcycle, meanwhile, a man got out of the autorickshaw and stabbed Mr. Sawant several times with a cleaver.

The Mumbai Zonal DCP informed that investigation is still on and the vehicle used in the crime was also seized. According to a PTI report, the two-term corporator from Samata Nagar in Kandivali was brutally attacked with cleavers by unidentified assailants while he was returning to his residence with his friend around 11 pm on Sunday.

Mr. Sawant was rushed to the nearby hospital as soon as possible but he was declared dead on arrival, a police official said. He further said that Mr. Sawant had entered the cable television business a few years ago.

Mr. Sawant dies in a local hospital around midnight after being stabbed over 20-time by cleavers. After scouring the CCTV footage, police said that they were able to zero in on the autorickshaw driver, identified as Ganesh Jogdand. Ganesh was then arrested from Dahisar, Mumbai.

A police official said that during the interrogation, Ganesh Jogdand led to his accomplice Sohail Dodhia. Sohail was not present at the scene of the crime but the police said that he had given the contract of killing Mr. Sawant to Ganesh.

An official said that a case had been registered against the two arrested persons and a hunt is on for the main accused. The motive for the crime is still being investigated with police adding the main accused had given a threat call to Mr. Sawant some time ago.

The police added that Ashok Sawant, a two-time corporator from Kandivali, had entered the cable television business a couple of years ago. His son Abhijit said his family did not know anything about any business dispute involving Mr. Sawant adding that they found out only after his death that Mr. Sawant had filed a police complaint last year about a threat call he had received.
