The Samajwadi Party, which is seeking re-election in Uttar Pradesh, has promised 24-hour power supply to all the domestic consumers in both urban and rural areas if it is voted back to power. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav recently on 22nd February 2017 claimed that his government is now providing 24-hours-a-day electricity supply to cities and over 8 hours a day to villages. While addressing a rally on 2 February 2017 at Muzaffarnagar of UP, he claims that government is providing power supply over 22 hours in cities and over 14 hours in urban areas. And in another rally on 9 February 2017, in Kosi, Akhilesh claimed the government was providing 22-24 hours of electricity a day in cities while villages were being provided with over 16 hours’ supply in a day.
Not only do the claims of Akhilesh vary from rally to rally, they also do not match official figures given to Checker by Purvanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (PVVNL), a state-owned power distribution company that supplies electricity across eastern UP. Chief engineer Chandrajeet Singh also claimed that towns received 22 hrs of electricity and villages received 18 hours.
But a local resident of Sambalhera( 30km south east from Mujaffarnagar), Md Taleem said they didn’t receive electricity more than 12 hrs a day. According to Akhilesh’s comment, in Robertsganj area all residents should get more than 20hrs of the power supply but, they are getting less than 15 hrs of electricity with frequent power cuts.
“Everyone says they are providing it, but most of the times it is true when we don’t need it,” “Right now, the supply is not bad for past one month because it is the election time, but before that picture was completely different, we hardly had electricity for more than 12 hours per.” said Ajit Kumar Shrivastava, a resident.
In the speech at Wembley stadium in November 2015, PM Narendra Modi promised that electricity will be supplied to 18k villages all over India. In UP till now not more than 50% households are electrified and it is less than the poorest state of India, Bihar.
Irrespective of party, politics, lectures, is there anyone in India, who is really interested to see any improvement in this situation. Only before the election, every year almost all politicians make a long speech considering these topics as a theme of their speech that he will ensure everything, but till now over 200 million Indians had no access to electricity till date. And it has been reflected from villagers of Mathura Pura, Jhansi district
However, some positive signs are being shown by UP govt. UP Cabinet approved the first-ever solar energy policy of the state. Producing 1000 MW of electricity through solar energy is the target under this policy which has been set by this March 2017. A renewable energy fund also created for the purpose of promoting the production of electricity power by solar energy.
