Trump Speech

Tuesday night revealed a side of President Trump that the media had never seen before during his reign as President as well as in the campaign season before that. The public saw aspiration and emotion in the President’s speech. This, coupled with the reduction of extreme language and the recognition of populations he had previously ignored, saw an amazing delivery to the members of Congress and to America in general.

“The time for trivial fights is behind us,” he said. Hopefully, he will put this into practice as well on his Twitter platform where he frequently responds to criticism he receives.

  1. Unifying Americans Everywhere

The President led a round of applause that lasted 2 minutes and 11 seconds for widow Carryn Owens. He spoke to her directly concerning her husband’s death in a disputed raid in Yemen. According to the White House, Navy Chief William “Ryan” Owens greatly aided the United States to get vital intelligence on the enemy. The address occurred as Carryn wept and clasped her hands.

“For as the Bible teaches us, there is no greater act of love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends,” Trump said. “Ryan laid down his life for his friends, for his country, and for our freedom — we will never forget him,” the President said. During the applause, Trump joked, “Ryan is looking down right now. You know that. And I think he’s very happy because you just broke a record.”

In that single moment, President Trump united Americans everywhere in the effort to fight the enemy, whom he cited as “radical Islamic terrorism” during another part of his speech.

  1. Vision for America

President Trump’s remarks during his speech lacked the usual carnage most of his addresses include. The President asked for support from members of Congress so as to be able to achieve a greater America.  In his address, President Trump said he was “asking all members of Congress to join me in dreaming big, and bold and daring things for our country.”

“Cures to illnesses that have always plagued us are not too much to hope. American footprints on distant worlds are not too big a dream. Millions lifted from welfare to work is not too much to expect. And streets where mothers are safe from fear — schools where children learn in peace — and jobs where Americans prosper and grow — are not too much to ask,” the President also said.

  1. Details on Healthcare

Trump also went on into details on the healthcare sector. He promised to “expand choice, increase access, lower costs, and at the same time, provide better healthcare”. However, he notably did not include the means he planned on using to achieving this end.

The President called for broader “access” to medical insurance. This would allude to him meaning he does not view making healthcare insurance to Americans as his government’s responsibility.

He also called for Medicaid funding that made it a point that “no one (is) left out”. This policy is highly supported by Democrats. Republicans, however, deem it too costly. Finally, President Trump called for co-operation between the Republican and Democratic parties in repealing and replacing Obamacare.

The speech to Congress was considered a step in the right direction and Trump’s first fully Presidential act by many. More, perhaps, are to come.
