Today the Karnataka’s Siddaramaiah government approved a flag reprinting their state. Before the announcement of the flag, they send all the details to the central government. Only after approval, they will be able to declare it as the state flag of the coastal state.

Last year the state Congress of Karnataka government had set up a 9-member committee to design the flag. Later the panel had submitted a report to the office of Siddaramaiah on the state flag getting legal sanctity. Immediately after submitting the detail of the flag to the state govt’s office, it has been approved by Karnataka Govt. But only thing is that they are waiting for the approval of central government.

Actually, there was a big discussion on it in last year. In the first week of June last year a panel was actually constituted through an official order by Siddaramaiah government on 6th June.  The chairperson of the committee was the principal secretary of the cultural department of Karnataka.

But state congress is expecting some hurdles to approve it in the center as Bharatiya Janata Party is there in the power. That is why the flag can face a major hurdle. When the BJP was in power in Karnataka in 2012, it didn’t allow them to have this flag as the official flag. The BJP then asked High Court to not accept the suggestions to declare yellow and red Kannada flag as the official flag of Karnataka saying a separate flag will be against the unity and integrity of our country.

Now also, several BJP leaders from the coastal state have termed the move of the state congress regarding this flag issue as one against the integrity of India. Bharatiya Janata Party is saying that the party has always fought for one flag, one nation.  According to the BJP, working on a separate flag of the state is actually against the nation.

But on the other hand Chief Minister of Karnataka had defended the move for a separate flag for his state, asking if there is any regulation or any rule in the Constitution that prohibits the separate flag for a state. He asked, “Is there any provision in the laws, rule or in regulations which is prohibiting a state to have a separate flag? Did Bharatiya Janata Party  come across any provision?” Bharatiya Janata Party has alleged that this is a political gimmick by the state Congress but against the allegation, Siddaramaiah Government said that the BJP always makes such false allegations. They don’t care about their allegation.

Before the state assembly elections in the state, this is their another strategic step to increase their sense of existence. But political analysts are saying that it will have no effect on the assembly elections and even it can have a negative effect on what they are trying to do.
