Ruben Kihuen, Nevada’s Representative is considering running for office in fall after he declared his resignations amid sexual harassment allegations brought against him in December 2017.

The MeToo movement and campaign is still ongoing as women who have worked with politicians in high places gather the courage to speak out on their experiences with sexual abuse and harassment. They seem to be gathering courage from the fear of being victimized as most politicians have friends in high places and may retaliate against them. But the MeToo campaign has focused too much on transgressions that no one would like to be involved with the perpetrators.

Despite Nevada’s Democratic Representative Ruben Kihuen’s accusations, other politicians have had to resign amid allegations of domestic abuse and sexual harassment. Some include Representative Trent Franks, Representative Bobby Scott and Tony Mendoza among others.

Accusations against the Lawmaker

Fox News, a news agency in the US confirmed on Wednesday that Ruben is undecided on whether to run or not during this fall’s elections. He had decided not to run because of sexual harassment allegations leveled against him at the end of last year. The House Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi called on the legislator to resign when his transgressions came to light.

Ruben was accused by his finance director who claimed that the legislator influenced her to go on dates with him and touched her leg in 2015 and 2016. The woman had reported the same to the Congressional Campaign Committee but at the time they seemed to support Ruben hence kept the allegations under wraps. No justice was served for the finance director.

At first light of the allegations last year, William McCurdy the Nevada Democratic Party Chairman stated that there is a zero-tolerance policy for sexual abuse and those leaders should be held accountable for their heinous actions.  He added that he was disappointed against the allegations brought against Congressman Kihuen and was for the notion of launching an investigation into the matter.

Kihuen Resignation Announcement

Ruben stated in December last year that he would resign come fall following the sexual accusation leveled against him. The lawmaker is recognized for flipping Nevada State from a Republican State into a Democratic one, a move that could be his consideration for running again.

The state is currently filing politician’s bids for office and Ruben has up to March 16 to make his decision on whether he will announce his bid to run for office.

The legislator is backed by Harry Reid the Democratic Minority.
